The Beauty of Art

I have never really enjoyed walking around museums looking at art. I find it hard to concentrate and appreciate it. But getting to hear from the artists themselves what the inspiration was behind the pieces and what it was about made it easier to understand and appreciate it. I am not sure if I will start going to museums or not but I think that I will start to look a little closer at art.

Talking with Ryan Lombardi

I always enjoy listening to VP Lombardi talk. In the fall he sat down for a rose scholars event and listened to our concerns about the fall semester and wanted to hear our ideas for the spring semester. I always get the feeling that he really does care about us and is trying his best. Every time I hear him discuss his career path it is refreshing to hear how frequently his changed and that he is happy and successful. I have changed my mind many times about the direction I want to take my life and it gives me hope that everything will work out just fine!

Success and Housing

I have been learning a lot about in class on success and how successful a child can be and how that can all depend on where a child lives. This talk on housing in the suburbs and the city made me think a lot about my class. Where you live and how you are raised all really affect the success and outcome of a child. If you live in poverty and might not always have access to food, you are not going to focus on school and won’t do very well in class. If you live in a better off neighborhood and not in poverty, you probably have access to good food and can focus on class and do well in it. Listening to this talk helped me learn even more about what I am already learning and discussing in class.

Relaxing Crocheting

The first week of the crochet workshops was so much fun. I got a beautiful skien of blue yarn in my mailbox and a bunch of supplies. I made a Crowl and  I have crocheted before when I was little and my grandmother tried to teach me, I have knitted before. I actually found the crocheting quite peaceful and more relaxing then the knitting once I got in the hang of it again. I am really looking forward to the next workshop. I went out and bought some more yarn so I can make more things!

Day Two of Calligraphy

Once again it was so hard to get the strokes right. It was not as stressful as last time because I had a better pen this time and that made it much easier to work on the strokes. The hardest part for me was the upstrokes going from letter to letter. I am not a very patient person so I do not know if I will ever really have the time to just sit still and work on it. However, I did enjoy I much better this week!

The Hidden Gem of Cornell

This was the first fellow interview that I had ever listened to. I wanted to listen to this one because I love the outdoors and I wanted to learn more about the botanical gardens an other outdoor gems that Cornell has to offer. I have bee to a lot of the different gardens fr plant science classes but not enough for just fun! I really enjoyed listening to the interview and was inspired to try to get out and explore more!

Masculinity

I was not really sure what to expect from this discussion and was not planning to talk very much and was not sure if I would have an opinion. Once I joined the zoom meeting there was only six of us and I thought oh no I am going to have to talk. But as we got going I realized I did have an opinion and was able to have a good conversation. We talked about our experiences and many of us talked about experiences with our boyfriends or male family members. This was an eye opening experience for me and I actually enjoyed talking about masculinity and got some clarity with some of the issues I had with some of my male family members.

Not So Relaxing Calligraphy!

I thought that learning calligraphy was going to be super relaxing, not so much….! First off I just wanted to say that I really did enjoy it, I just did not have enough patience for learning how to get the strokes right. I couldn’t seem to get thick and thin brush strokes down pat. We came to the decision that it was because of the type of pens that we had. Overall though it was something new that I tried and it was a nice break from homework!

All About Bridgerton

I absolutely loved this show when it came out. I watched all of the episodes in one night. I cried, I laughed, I was happy, and I was angry. Even though I really enjoyed the show I found myself looking for more. I started reading articles that had been written on the accuracy of the show and the diversity in the cast. I found so much historical information that I still was not really quite sure if it was true or not.

When I saw this event I did not even look at the other events I signed right up! I really enjoyed the discussion and everyones perspectives. We came to the decision from other articles that had been read, that even though the show was not necessarily based on true events, there was some historical accuracy there. The discussion allowed me to talk and finally have some of my questions answered!
