Pick of the Litter

I was surprised by how ‘picky’ the guide dog training program is. I understand that from the perspective of blind people, guide dog are essential for blind people so that they are able to relied on them. However, the picking of certain guide dog traits felt a little too much for me. I feel like the dogs are being treated as slavery, and they have to have the desirable traits. But in all in all, this film is very cute and heartwarming.

The Pruitt-Igoe Myth

The Pruitt-Igoe film talked about public housing and its connection to race and financial status. A great point raised was the means by which slumlords would exploit financially burdened individuals who urgently required a home, by giving homes that had horrible day to day environments. I’m astonished at how minimal guideline there was for slumlords, and how the public authority and associations in positions to help did pretty much nothing  to advance day to day environments, despite the fact that the lodging circumstance was desperate and unquestionably required quick consideration. I think that government should take more responsibility on improving the socioeconomic status of residents.

The Queen’s Gambit: Episode 5

In the previous episode, we saw that Beth is obsessed with chess, where she barely has any connections with other people. However, in this episode, Beth started to form attachment with her boyfriend.  This could be good in terms of her well-being given that she has someone to talk to. However, on the flip side, it could be detrimental as well since Beth is still young and gaining independence. It might be the best time for her to strive independence and learn to navigate life without her adopted mother.

Studio Ghibli: Kiki’s Delivery Service

I found one thing that stuck to me the most is the fact that how overdoing lead to negative result. A character talks about how she loved painting. Because of how obsessed she was with painting, this lead to the fact that she could not paint anymore, and she had to take break. This fact from the film reminds me of my journey as a college student. Sometimes, doing more is not going to benefit, even though I might think more is better. Going forward, I would be more mindful with the 80/20 rule

The Queen’s Gambit: Episode 3

This episode we saw that Beth is upset by her lost in US Open. Despite having lost multiple chess tournament before, this particular one is a significant lost for Beth because she had been trying to beat Benny. Beth’s mother points out that her loss is because she was too obsessed to win the game, and neglected the strategy to her opponent. This lead to major Beth’s character change, which is prominent in the next episode.

Faubourg Treme – The Untold Story of Black New Orleans

After watching this film, I realized that history is more complex that it was taught in the textbook. I have always thought that textbook is a good sources of evidence from history, as it has peer-reviewed as such. However, after watching this movie, it seems that history are much more dynamic and complex. This reminds me of the need of transparency when communicating history through the media.

The Queen’s Gambit: Episode 1

Despite how popular it is on Netflix, I never had the chance of watch the Queen’s Gambit on Netflix. So I grabbed this opportunity to watch it with other Rose Scholar. What stood out the most to me was the music. The music added a sensational impact that kept you holding your breath as you hung tight for what planned to occur. I liked the instrumental music just as the vocals added in to make a considerably more strange impact. I’m anticipating proceeding with the arrangement and I would give it a good review.

United Skates

I liked the United Skates movie because I have never thought that roller skating has close relation to the Black culture. I thought that it was intriguing to find out about how skating arenas work as place of refuge for the close by local area. It was disheartening to catch wind of a portion of the monetary battles and terminations a few arenas were going through on the grounds that it seemed like the presence of these sorts of public venues were essential to the imperativeness of individuals.
