Learning with Kahoot!

The trivia on Saturday taught me a lot of facts about Cornell I didn’t know. For example the first building built in Cornell was Cascadilla Hall! More importantly this fun session made me reflect on how well a social platform like Kahoot can promote a more positive learning environment. For example, in high school, for my foreign language class like Spanish we would often use Kahoot to promote healthy competition among students as to who knew the Spanish vocabulary the best. Now looking back I still vividly remember the words I got wrong and got right as kahoot events were so prominent due to the competition. Hence, I feel that such trivia events should be incorporated in lectures as well!

The weight of a cloud

Do you know how much the average cloud weighs? I had no idea, and had never even thought about it, until the fun trivia event on Saturday. It was fascinating to learn that clouds are much heavier than I thought, and this led to fun discussions with my suitemates and family about how this figure must have been measured. I love wondering about the natural world and it is handy to know fun facts as well. Trivia is so fun, as it inspires the same curiosity and love of learning that has brought us all to Cornell. I love learning new things and it is so fun to do so with others who share the same curiosity!

Did you know that….?

Saturday afternoon trivia was such a fun activity among a very stressful week.  It was relaxing to play with friends and learn an assortment of random facts.  It brought back a lot of fun memories of high school when I played trivia competitively on a team and watched Jeopardy! every night with my family.  It was a lot of fun trying to remember everything that I knew and trying to guess on the facts that I never heard of.  The group was a lot of fun and I learned so much about Cornell.  My new knowledge about Cornell and Ithaca has made me appreciate the ice cream sundae even more as we go to school near the birthplace of the ice cream sundae!  I hope that we can have more trivia events in the future!

Trivia: A Fun Study Break

I’m very grateful to have participated in the Midday Trivia Series. I had fun being able to take a break from studying and destress by playing Kahoot. I also learned a lot of things during the event! For example, I never knew that Cornell had a brains collection in the Department of Psychology or that the unicorn is the national animal of Scotland. It was nice to learn about how Ithaca was the birthplace of the ice cream sundae. I thought it was very fitting considering we have the Dairy Bar on campus. Even though I am lactose intolerant, I love eating Cornell’s ice cream. Thank you to GRF Karina for putting this together!

Trivia Day

Trivia was fun today. I certainly learned a lot of new things. Especially being a new transfer student there were plenty of questions which I felt I should be able to answer quite easily but I definitely did not know the answer to. So in a way it was neat being able to learn some new things. Than there was also a good mix of more general trivia questions which I also learned a lot on. I found myself trying to metagame a lot of the questions. “Hm well they wouldn’t ask this question if it was what I think the answer is.” But this only marginally helped. Occasionally I would get it right, but I really doubt I did a whole lot better than just guessing overall if I looked at the stats. That’s one thing I wish I had been able to see, my individual stats on the questions. I think that would have been an interesting thing to see. Such as what percentage of the Cornell based questions did I get right and how did that compare to the median. But overall this was a very enjoyable time and shoutouts to Karina for that fire trivia playlist.

Taking a break

It is easy to forget in the torrent of school work, club activities, and life’s responsibilities to take a moment and breathe. I found the trivia hour with GRF Karina to be just what I needed. Doing something fun and mindless (if you are like me and are haphazardly guessing) is a great way to decompress. This weekend, my mind has been constantly running, planning, prioritizing, and doing assignment after assignment. So, taking a break to sip some later and hear interesting facts was what I needed most.

Also, shoutout to Karina’s killer midday trivia music playlist. Loved the tunes!

Trivia Break

Amidst my lazy Saturday when I definitely should have started some of my school work, I joined other rose members in a mid-afternoon break of trivia. It was really nice to take my mind off the many stresses that were bothering me and direct my attention towards trying to get on the Kahoot podium. The questions varied from Cornell related (what was the first building built?) to random knowledge (what country’s national animal is the unicorn?). Although a lot of the questions were complete guesses on my end, it was really fun to learn new facts. Overall, it was a nice break and helped expand my knowledge.

Cornell Trivia

Having two upcoming prelims next week, participating in this trivia was a nice way to unwind and distract my mind from studying. I learned some interesting things about Ithaca. One fact being that Cornell was the first college ever to establish a School of Hotel Administration. I think that’s an amazing fact because hospitality and all that comes with it is such a complex and essential service, and will continue to be in the future. Another fact about Ithaca that I found interesting is that Ithaca is the home of the ice cream sundae. I wonder if there are any museums that commemorate this. It’d be nice to get to try some ice cream sundae samples :)) (Post-pandemic of course LOL)
