Google PageRank For Apps

Google’s PageRank algorithm and the use of links as a “voting” system for discovering websites was a transformational moment for the web and it changed online discovery forever. Before the PageRank era, searching directories for relevant website and manually typing URLs in the browser’s address bar was very common. However, now we use Google’s PageRank algorithm to easily search what we intend to find. The app interaction today has many similarities before the PageRank era, with apps listed under numerous app store categories. Google’s Now on Tap may guide into “PageRank for Apps” era that will change our lives yet again.

As Google describes, Now on Tap service will be able to provide convenient service to the users. For example, if you’re chatting with a friend about where to get dinner, Google can bring you quick info about the place your friend recommends. You’ll also see other apps on your phone, like OpenTable or Yelp, so you can easily make a reservation, read reviews or check out the menu. When you tap and hold the home button, Google gives you options that are a best guess of what might be helpful to you in the moment.

Users find apps by browsing through app stores today. But now, Google is building ability to recommend apps to users based on what they need the most at that moment. Google appears to be indexing apps and using live, in-app information as the voting system to bring the apps that users need at that instant. Now the users can easily jump from app to app, making the smartphone homescreen out of the question. Google’s PageRank algorithm that dominates most of the search engine today will also try to transition into PageRank for Apps era to dominate yet again.
