Everyone knows Google’s Search Engine Optimization algorithm dominates online marketing. We learned in class the core concepts of SEO. The webpages are ranked based on how many incoming links the website has and the quality of those links. Google, however, often changes their algorithm in hopes to improve the quality and profitability of the search results. These changes seem to always send marketing teams into frenzy. For instance, their update, “Mobilegeddon”, improved searches by placing preference on mobile friendly pages. This caused marketing teams to franticly try to figure out how to make their sites more mobile friendly.
Google is changing the way SEO is done. It is trying to get rid of large updates like, Panda, Pigeon, or Mobilegeddon. Google plans to do this by using machine learning. This way the SEO algorithm Google uses will be constantly changing slightly in order to try to improve results. As an effect, better content will be displayed even higher on Google’s search results page. Online marketing teams will also not have to worry about large changes at any given time but will have to worry about a constantly changing market.
