Power to the Employees
These articles detail the influence between employees and companies. In the past, it was difficult to find out the company culture and benefits, but now with the availability of information on the internet company culture is becoming increasingly more concerned with employee engagement. Many employees now have the power to post negative or positive reviews on companies and even their hiring processes on websites like Glassdoor, Value, and CareerLeak. Recently, Amazon was put in the spotlight when it was criticized on the New York Times for its stressful work environment. Job seekers are looking for positions in companies where they can feel inspired. Many individuals said they enjoyed their jobs because of the people they worked with or the mission of the company they worked with.
With websites like Glassdoor, Value, and CareerLeak we find that employees have newfound power in the job network through reviews. This relates to class as we learn how nodes in a network can influence other users’ decisions by changing expectations. As mentioned chapter 17, users can be more interested in something and begin to participate. Translated to the job market, this can impact the level of job applications to a company.
