Not all algorithms were created equally
Google, a multinational technology company, is known for many things – their internet related services, advertising, the colors: red, yellow, blue, and green, Google glass, Google Chrome, the list goes on… However, the single most important contributor to Google’s success and fame has to be their search algorithm. A secret akin to the Mr. Krab’s Krabby Patty formula, Google’sPageRank algorithm is the holy grail of search query algorithms and is one of the main reasons why Google is preferred by consumers compared to other search engines (according to the diagram I found on Quora, also pictured below).
Easily one of the most popular algorithms in computer science, Google’s PageRank caters to its users by limiting distracting advertisements and delivering popular and relevant responses. People everywhere compete to appear first on the first page of results when users are searching for keywords that pertain to their business, personal website, or blog. Perhaps other search engines should take Lawrence’s advice and “give [consumers] what they want” by bettering their search algorithms and producing accurate results.
