Can game theory help to prevent rape?

According to our text book, Game theory is “designed to address situations in which the outcome of a person’s decision depends not just on how they choose among several options, but also on the choices made by the people they are interacting with” (155).

The article “Can Game Theory Help to Prevent Rape?” talks about an application/ a website that helps college students to report sexual assaults by using game theory. Students may choose to report rape directly to their campus Title IX coordinator, or write the report first and decide later to submit. For the second option, the report can be put if someone else reports the same person as a perpetrator who tends to repeat sexual crimes. This is where the game theory takes apart.

It is really smart to use game theory to promote people to report the sexual crimes because usually victims think they are the one who caused the bad situation and tend to hide that they got assaulted. However, by using the game theory, victims can write report even if they hesitate to report, and if the perpetrator repeats the crime, then police can catch him/her who committed multiple crimes.
