With the 2016 presidential election coming up in a mere 14 months, many notable people have made their announcements for running for the coveted status of President of the United States. What will be more interesting, however, will be the potential candidates for the 2020 presidential election. One that sticks out to me the most is rapper and fashion designer Kanye West, who recently made headlines when he made the surprise announcement in his 13-minute acceptance speech at the VMA’s.
Although Kanye does not have any political experience, he found a generous amount of support from fellow celebrities and public figures:
Khloe Kardashian was said to have been “quick to show her approval”. This stems from Kanye being married to Kim Kardashian West, which generally means that they share a positive relationship. Kim and Khloe have also shown a positive relationship through their show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Through this we can apply the Strong Triadic Closure property, and say that Khloe and Kanye also share a positive relationship. Because of this, it makes sense as to why she would support him in his candidacy.
Taylor Swift says she is all for his candidacy, but in my opinion, they share an unstable relationship. This is because Kanye and Taylor might share a positive relationship, but Taylor and Kim’s relationship is a little questionable as Taylor has surpassed Kim in Instagram follower count. Taylor and Kim also attract different clusters of fan-based networks. With their quests in becoming, the “it” girl, they might share a negative relationship, which would cause an unstable relationship according to the Structural Balance Property.
Rihanna also supports Kanye, and as long as she and Kim maintain a positive relationship, there should be no problem with Rihanna and Kanye’s positive relationship.
I related Kanye’s potential voters based on their relationship with Kim, his wife, because I feel like it is a strong indicator of how likely they are to vote for Kanye. Because of this, if Kanye ends up winning the presidency, he will owe a lot to his First Lady, Kim Kardashian.
