Apple pushes iPhone video app to capitalize on social network popularity
When we think of social networking sites, we think of Facebook, Linkedin, tumblr, tinder, maybe even myspace or aim messenger. Any site, really, that you can make new connections and communicate with your current connections. Especially Facebook, which was definitely where I and probably many others discovered the concept of a “social network” for the first time. Apple is debatably not at the forefront of social networking apps and so, they are trying to rejuvenate that aspect of their business. The growth in Apple’s hardware is slowing down and they want to look at iCloud and the App store for more business.
Apple is creating a social media app that allows video editing and the ability to share to other individuals on third party sites – think editing a video and sharing it to a friend on twitter. The videos are meant to be casual – one minute quickly made videos. Apple has also revamped their messaging system to be able to order from and connect to third party sites. Apple has also been working on new features that will recommend places, contacts and apps based on location and time of day. By connecting to third party sites and increasing the shareability of people’s daily activities I believe that apple can bring a new aspect to their current social network. Messages is a social network but only grows as you meet more people – often on other social networking sites. The combining of this widespread across apple systems creates a more far reaching social network. Apples new messaging features makes it easier to keep in touch and interact with your current contacts and so makes strong bonds – so the triadic bridges will naturally form and continue to expand.
