Hi everyone, my name is Marie and I’m a junior Communication major, minoring in international relations. As a Black woman, I’ve always noticed a contentious relationship between Asian communities and Black communities, especially in the US, and I was interested in this course to unlearn some of the inaccurate tropes that don’t critically nor historically represent the entanglement between the two groups. The focus on food, feminism, and futurism was something that pulled me in even more, in that I never contemplated those elements as critical to studying this. I love food, travel, and exploration so I’m excited to explore the Afro-Asian intimacies in a way the engages my interests.
