F.R.I.E.N.D.S. and Matching
This article addresses how the finale of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. should have been like. It outlines how every relationship/person realistically would have ended up looking like when the series came to an end. Majority of viewers feel bad for the fact that although everyone else in the gang ended up with somebody in the end, Joey was left kind of the same way the show started.
This article relates to the topic of matching as discussed in class. Although Rachel and Ross, as surprising as it was, did end up together in the end and Monica and Chandler are content with the new twin babies that they just adopted, it was very much up in the air with Phoebe and, more importantly, Joey. This bipartite graph doesn’t demonstrate the idea of perfect matching because although Rachel, Monica, and Phoebe are all matched up with their significant other, that is not the same for the guys. Joey’s future was left up in the air, although he got his own spin-off, but that makes the ending a little imperfect. But then again, the theme song itself embodied how imperfect life can be so the finale couldn’t have been an exception. But nonetheless, matching is a very evident topic that is represented within the show.
