Wine 101 Workshop

Last Thursday, May 4th, 2017  Marie Guido-Miner conducted her first Wine 101: Taste Wine Like A Pro Sensory Evaluation Workshop for the members of Alcoholic Beverage Consumer Panel.  This is part of Marie’s student research project.  The seminar was specifically designed for consumers, wine drinkers, and covered proper sensory evaluation procedures for wine, common sensory attributes for wine flavor and aroma, wine styles as well as tips on appreciating, buying and serving wine.

Attendees tasted and discussed two Finger Lakes wines:  Keuka Spring 2015 Chardonnay and Keuka Spring Crooked Lake Red.  (Thank you to the Keuka Spring’s winemaker and Cornell University alum, August Deimel, for donating the bottles for this tasting!)  They also had a chance to test their senses by participating in the Sensory Acuity Test, where they tried to identify some common wine odors and tastes.

More wine and beer workshops are planned for the month of May.  If you’re interested to sign up, become a member of the Alcoholic Beverage Consumer Panel by answering the survey http://bit.ly/2mMYsNF and the researcher will contact you with information about the upcoming alcohol studies and public seminars.
