Many of us use the start of a new year to set goals or make a resolution. According to a 2023 Forbes Health Survey, some of the most common resolutions fall into one of these categories: to improve mental health, to improve physical health, or to improve finances. Regardless of your resolution or goal, it can be helpful to do some pre-planning to increase your chances of success.
- Determine your larger, long-term goal.
- Ask yourself why you want to achieve this goal.
- Break your long-term goal into smaller, more manageable tasks or short-term goals.
- Be sure your goals are SMART.
-
- Specific
- Measurable
- Action-oriented
- Realistic and Relevant
- Time-bound
- Ask yourself who you can count on for support in achieving your goal.
- Write your goals down and review them periodically to be sure you are still on task.
