This month we celebrate Caregivers and Veteran’s Day. Cornell Cooperative Extension is honored to provide services to a grandmother who is raising five grandchildren under six years old. As a caregiver she has struggled with legal issues unique to her situation. Three years ago, she reached out to our Grandparents’ Support Group asking for help in getting custody of the children who were about to be permanently placed in Foster Care. In the support group she not only found the resources she needed, but she also found the friendship, caring and encouragement to forge ahead, obtain legal custody of the children and make a loving home for her new family. CCE salutes Madeleine Vega Crawford, veteran of the United States Air Force and a caregiver raising her grandchildren.
