Farmers market managers visit high tunnels, Cornell Orchards

More than 50 farmers market managers from across New York visited high tunnel research at the Cornell University Agriculture Experiment Station’s East Ithaca facility March 6, where Marvin Pritts and Chris Wien explained how the unheated structures can extend the fresh vegetable, fruit and cut-flower season both early and late in the season. The tour, which also included presentations by Justine Vanden Heuvel and Eric Shatt at Cornell Orchards, was part of a three-day training sponsored by the Farmers Market Federation of New York. Michael Mazourek also talked about Cornell’s vegetable breeding program.
