Georgia

Tim Coolong of the University of Georgia conducts Yield trials at one of the Eastern Broccoli Project’s newest sites, near Tifton, GA.  The site is at low elevation on sandy soil within the southern Coastal Plain.  Large and mid-sized farms here typically harvest broccoli from November through December in the fall and from late March through mid-April in the spring.  With better hybrids, the harvest could extend a few extra weeks into the spring.

In 2017, the Georgia Yield trial was planted in late February as the third crop on plastic mulch-covered raised beds.  The broccoli was ready for evaluation and harvest from mid-April through early May.
