NAP SACC is one of the initiatives of the Creating Healthy Places in Suffolk County grant that CCE’s Family Health and Wellness program received from the New York State Department of Health.

What:  NAP SACC is an obesity prevention program for child care centers.

Why:   currently 26% of U.S. children, ages 2-6 are classified as overweight or obese and approximately 82% of children under age 6 are in childcare; making child care centers the perfect setting for such a program.

Goals of NAP SACC: to improve the health of young children; this is accomplished by assisting child care centers in improving their nutrition, physical activity and media environments.

Here’s what people are saying about the NAP SACC program:
“This is great.  Thank you.  I’m not sure if I mentioned it lately but the new snacks and nutrition program is going great with the children. They are eating the fruits, drinking more water, less carbs and we have recently introduced the yogurt which they are eating as well.  I’m happy to say, it was a much easier snack transition to report.

Getting involved in your program has been a great benefit for our school, children and staff. Thank you again for all of your efforts.”

“I think what you are doing is great. Good Luck! Thank You for all of your valuable information! The program has tremendously helped me in my personal life in my home as well as my as my work life in my second home. Next time we meet you will know just how much this is true. Again Thank You Thank You Thank You!

“Healthy Heart Day went GREAT !!! Thanks to you, NAPSACC and Cornell. 99% of the children 2yrs to 4 yrs knew that eating fruits and vegetables and exercising is what would keep them healthy! The one child who choose cookies as a healthy choice has only been here for two weeks. When given the choice of soda or water all the children picked water! I am so excited. We are making a difference in the health of our children. I can’t thank you enough for all you do!!! Thank you, thank you , thank you ~  to you and everyone else at Cornell.”

“We have made some great changes as a result of the NAP SAC program.  We have our outdoor learning center up and running — we have a shed that we use year round to teach the kids.  The teachers have also incorporated a lot of movement into the classroom and it has been so beneficial to everyone.  Additionally, we also have a physical education teacher on staff who comes in once a week to get the kids moving.  Our most exciting news is that it looks likely that the school will be taking over space from the gym next door, so we will be able to have a large all-purpose room to be able to offer more movement for the children.”
Erica Stang ~ Kid Esteem Montessori School, Lindenhurst

“The NAP SACC program was a positive experience for our program.  The parents were surprised at how much screen time their children experienced in a day.  It encouraged parents to ‘get moving’ with their kids and shut off the screens.”|
