We’ve learned about page rank a couple weeks ago during the lecture. Page rank is one kind of algorithms that can help to determine the relevance or importance of a site. It was first developed by Google’s co-founder Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Although the feature has removed from the google page, it still has the importance the determine relevance of web sites.

The blog in the link is analysing why the page rank is wrong in a case study, but the case study was deleted. The blog explained of how the case study is wrong by backing up that its calculation was done entirely within Wikipedia and ignored external linking pointing into the site. To get more accurate page rank calculation of who is the most famous person, the blog used different tools.

It used comparative metrics called MajesticSEO Topical Trust Flow and MOZ’s opensiteexplorer.com. One first used MajexticSEO Topical Trust Flow tool in order to compare the importance of Jesus, Hitler, and Linnaeus. Using the tool, one figured out that Jesus has 56 Trust flow, Hitler has 56 trust flow, and Linnaeus has 50 trust flow. Moreover, when one used another tool to figure out each of the citation flows, it was, again, concluded that Jesus has 57 citation flows, Hitler has 54 citation flows, and Linnaeus has 50 citation flows. Therefore, using the trust flow and citation flow of site data for Wikipedia entry, we could figure out who is the most famous person among Jesus, Hitler, and Linnaeus.

With the trust flow and citation flow, I wanted to do something fun with presidential election candidates. However, I only could use the majestic website only for couple of times until I was told to subscribe…but this is what I got.

Michael Bennet

Joe Biden

Cory Booker

This shows that among three of these, Joe Biden is the most famous, which can in some sense say he has the most possibility of getting elected; however, I want to try using the tool for all the candidates for 2020 presidential election.
