Google’s Page Rank
Page Rank is how Google can rank web pages based on their importance. Years ago, Google confirmed that their Page Rank system was no longer being used. Although Page Rank is not the main algorithm Google uses, the company has confirmed it is still one of the hundreds of ranking signals used. Further evidence that Google still uses Page Rank is the fact that they applied for a continuation of the patent in 2018. It does appear that Page Rank is more outdated, but that does not mean it isn’t useful.
Those concerned with search engine optimization have one of two choices. They can either ignore Page Rank and focus on other metrics that will make your website better. The reason why Page Rank was abandoned is because spam links attempted to game the system too much. The article has a few suggestions to improve Page Rank, including telling users where links go to and leveraging linkless mentions.
