Jessica Westbrook (Ph.D. ’09) is serving as one of 10 science and technology fellows for the California State Legislature, according to an article in the San Jose Mercury News Top minds tapped in aid of legislation:
In the first-of-its kind statewide program, the California Council on Science and Technology is teaming up with universities and several foundations to provide the services of Ph.D. scientists and engineers to committees and lawmakers.
The fellowships are intended to provide California policy makers with unbiased scientific and technical advice on issues before the state Senate and Assembly, said Lora Lee Martin, the director of the fellowship program. Foundations are funding the $7 million worth of fellowships.
Jessica will be lending her talents to the Natural Resources Committee.
