June 1st starts National Dairy Month!
Dairy is an important part of the USDA MyPlate nutrition guide. It provides calcium for strong bones and other nutrients such as Vitamins A, B12, D and many others to optimize the way that your body functions. This month is a great time to look at what healthy dairy items look like and how you can incorporate them into your diet.
Americans of all ages can benefit from a healthy intake of fat-free and low-fat dairy. Babies and young school-age kids need up to 2 cups a day. From middle-school age through adulthood, that increases to 3 cups a day. That’s more than most of us tend to eat or drink in a day, so why not take some time in June to reconnect with your favorite dairy items and make them a part of your meal planning.
