Walk/Bike to School Day

bike to school

Let’s join thousands of communities in celebrating Walk/Bike to School Day on the first Wednesday in October. Many schools celebrate in a variety of ways throughout the entire month of October. Everyone benefits from walking. Some basic benefits are improved health and fitness and broadening sense of community. Parents are encouraged to walk with their child to insure the route is safe, easy and appropriate. For a checklist go to www.walkbiketoschool.org.

Easy to Follow Safety Rules:

  • Cross at crosswalks where you can see and be seen by drivers
  • Cross at the light. Stop and look left, look right and then left again before crossing the street
  • Walk on sidewalks facing traffic
  • Never walk alone; besides it’s more fun with your friends or parents

Don’t just sit there!! Make a plan to celebrate the benefits of walking to school during International Walk to School Day.
