Orientalism in Donell Jones’ “This Luv”
on Thought I’d share another example of Orientalism in R&B visual aesthetics. I wonder why having a concert under a giant Buddha is more fitting than a church, synagogue, monastery, etc., Notice the menacing glares of the East-Asian characters at 0:49 and generally near-invisible Asian cast. Also, the shot at 1:20 is really interesting.
