Blogs in the Classroom

Blogs can be a powerful tool for both small seminars and large lectures, primarily as a means for students to develop their own voices on course materials and the issues they raise. It’s a format with which many students are familiar, and (with a little guidance) can strike an appealing balance between informal and engaging, enabling students to try out their ideas before presenting them in a polished written assignment. Writing on a blog is public, which may raise some tricky issues, but will also give students additional provocation to make their contributions thoughtful and engaging.
