Summer 2017:

Updated Version of Software and recommendation to not use the REEF Instructor Program: iClicker’s latest version (v7.16.0) is the recommended version of the software to use for the 2017 Summer and Fall semesters.  Another version (called REEF Education) has multiple issues and is still not being recommended for use by instructors.  For classes that will be allowing students to use their phones/laptop/tablets/iPads, instructors are encouraged to use the latest iClicker version.  Clickers and mobile devices can be used at the same in class, just like previous versions.  Students can use their REEF Polling app subscription without any issue while instructors use the newest iClicker program.

For any questions, please write to acadtech@cornell.edu for assistance and to receive the latest version of the iClicker  software with Cornell-specific settings.

This update is being repeated from the Fall and Spring 2016, with minor modifications, to notify people of a new version of iClicker.

July 2014:

i>clicker version 7.0 has been released.

A new version of i>clicker has been released.  It is not recommended that instructors update their software to this new version for the Fall 2014 semester.  This recommendation will be re-evaluated for the Spring 2015 semester during the fall.  For full details about version 7 and the current recommendation to not use it, please see the i>clicker 7.0 web page.

January 2014:

i>clicker GO is now available for use at Cornell.

i>clicker GO is a Web-based, “virtual” remote that students use to answer questions on their laptops or other mobile devices. i>clicker GO voting can be done using a Web browser or an app for iOS or Android phones. The instructor’s i>clicker program will collect votes from both i>clicker remotes and i>clicker GO responses. An Internet connection in required to use i>clicker GO for both instructors and students. Please note that SMS text responses are not supported with i>clicker GO – only web-enabled devices can use i>clicker GO.  Students who do not own or have access to a web-enabled device during class time can still participate in classroom polls by purchasing an i>clicker remote through the Cornell Store.

Please see our i>clicker GO page for full details.

July 2013:

Changes to the Classroom Polling service occurred during the summer of 2013. Here are some highlights:

  1. We upgraded the software to version 6.4.1 for both i>clicker and i>grader programs.  It is highly recommended that you upgrade your software to the new version.  There are three ways to upgrade your software:
    • You can upgrade yourself by double-clicking on the WebUpdate program in the same folder as your i>clicker and i>grader programs.
    • You can contact acadtech@cornell.edu to schedule a time for our staff to visit you in your office to quickly upgrade the software for you.
    • Bring your i>clicker USB drive (and your receiver base – see item #2 below) to the Academic Technology Center, room 124 Computing and Communications Center, and our staff will quickly upgrade the software for you or exchange your old USB drive for a new USB drive with the updated software ready to use.
  2. An update to the receiver base is available.  It is imperative that you replace your receiver base with a newer one, if yours has not been updated since the summer of 2012.  There are two ways to update your receiver base:
    • You can contact acadtech@cornell.edu to schedule a time for our staff to visit you in your office to quickly update your receiver base for you.
    • Bring your receiver base (and your i>clicker USB drive) to the Academic Technology Center, room 124 Computing and Communications Center, and our staff will quickly replace your receiver base with a new one.
  3. There is a new registration method for those using Blackboard course web sites.  The full details can be found at:
    http://pollinghelp.cit.cornell.edu/iclicker-integrate-for-blackboard/
    The key features are:

    • Students will register their clickers through their Blackboard courses, not through the Cornell Web Registration site.
    • Instructors can quickly download a student roster directly from the Blackboard course site into the i>grader application.
    • Instructors can quickly upload student clicker points from i>grader into the Blackboard Grade Center.
    • When linked with Blackboard Managed Enrollment, managing students and clickers will be much easier and time-efficient.
