IPM Update 5.22.20

Hello and what a lovely Friday we are having.   Even the rain that is predicted sounds good as it is a bit dry here.

Greenhouse Grower listed 5 biocontrol take-away messages from the Biocontrols USA Conference – all near and dear to my heart!  Although of course I have comments (in italics)

  • IPM doesn’t mean you don’t spray. It means you use every piece of equipment in your toolbox
  • Pesticide compatibility (with the beneficials) is the No. 1 killer of biocontrol programs (well, I don’t know the ranking but it is something you must consider!)
  • Sanitation is the unsung hero of every successful insect management program (I sing about this a LOT! I’m about to burst into my version of  Les Mis ‘Do You Hear The Bios Sing’ right now!)
  • Sachet placement is critical for success (now John Sanderson is singing!)
  • Biocontrols are not fast acting – plan ahead!
