Google Bomb

This article relates to course because we discussed Page Rank in class. Page Rank is an algorithm that determines which pages are important relative to each other. Many search engines use pagerank for their search results. Google uses pagerank, and when a page has a higher page rank, it’s more likely to be seen higher in search results.

The term “Google Bombing” is when search results are manipulated for inaccurate results. One famous example was for “miserable failure” that sent a link for George W Bush’s biography on the white house website. This shows a weakness in Google’s algorithm, and can be used for humor, political or personal reasons. This is problematic, so they changed the algorithm to stop Google bombing.
