Apple, iPhone, and Cascades
Recently, Apple has released its new iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, Apple Watch, and just last week, Apple has released its iPhone X to the public. According to the article, , “the company has sold more than 1.2 billion iPhones over the past decade… but last year had a substantial decline in revenue as many consumers rejected the iPhone 7 as being too similar to the iPhone 6.” With Apple products, the hype of new products has always gained the world’s attention. However, products always have reviews and opinions from people who deem the product worth it or not worth it. Based on the price and subtle differences between the iPhone 6 and iPhone 7, the public seemed to have been convinced that the iPhone 7 was not worth investing.
What made the iPhone so popular since the beginning of the series was its revolutionary design and innovation in smartphones. Since consumers were pleased with their products, an enormous information cascade happened in the past decade, and every anticipation and release has had positive effects for the company. Most consumers who can afford a fortunate lifestyle and are keen on Apple products will not think twice about purchasing the newest iPhone every year because of the information cascade that has convinced the mass public of its worth. Even though the iPhone 7 was not as popular relative to its precedents, I predict that this sub-cascade effect will not affect the overall growing number of iPhones and Apple Watches around the world.
