Now that we know we don’t have to be “perfect,” how do we practice doing Good.Better.Best.?

→ It’s Sundae Sunday. Three scoops of vanilla ice cream, a mountain of whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, hot fudge and, of course, a candied cherry on top.

How can we make this good?

Let’s try cutting down the size. So now we have just one and a half scoops of ice cream, a small puff of whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, a drizzle of hot fudge and a candied cherry on top.

Good!

Can we make this even better?

How about instead of the sprinkles and candied cherry on top, we add some chopped nuts and fresh fruit (and all of their nutrients) to the sundae. Fresh, cut strawberries, bananas or blueberries make perfect ice cream toppings (and taste good with hot fudge!)

Is this the best we can do?

Let’s cut a lot of the fat and sugar by substituting the ice cream with low-fat yogurt or a fruit-based “nice” cream. Check out our recipe for banana “nice” cream for an easy, healthy and delicious

→ Grocery time (ugh!). As if going grocery shopping wasn’t hard enough. But you know you want to make better decisions for you and your family. Your list for this week includes: milk, eggs, bread, cereal, and snacks for lunches. How can we make this shopping trip good, better and the best?

How can we make this good?

Start with simple substitutions. Instead of buying whole milk, let’s aim for a low-fat gallon. Same with bread. We can buy a loaf of whole-wheat bread to increase our intake of whole grains.

Can we make this even better?

Normally buy two boxes of cereal for the week? Try to make at least one of them a healthier choice, like a cereal made with whole grain and less sugar. Also, try swapping one box for Toasted Whole Grain Oat cereal or oatmeal with fruits and nuts. Check out our recipes for overnight oats to get some quick and tasty ideas.

Is this the best we can do?

Snacks for lunch usually consist of chips and cookies. Try switching it up and buying whole-wheat pretzels, yogurt or applesauce pouches.
