Whether it’s Penguin or Polar Bear, why not take a chilly plunge to support some Cornell Cooperative Extension programs this weekend?
On Saturday, Feb. 14th, at 12 p.m., Penguin Plungers will dive into the waters at Cornell Cooperative Extension’s marine facility Suffolk County Marine Environmental Learning Center at Cedar Beach in Southold in support of The Peconic Estuary Program. This event will spotlight local marine restoration projects, summer camps, and upcoming programming by the PEP.
This event is free and offered by the Peconic Estuary Program in collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program. Swimmers must be age 6 and up. Registration is free, but suggested in advance. And on Sunday, Feb. 15th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., support Peconic Dunes in Southold as they Polar Bear Plunge into the winter waters located off the camp. Since Feb. 15th marks the halfway point between last summer and next summer, swimmers are invited to help Peconic Dunes celebrate by by putting on a swimsuit for a quick dip in the Long Island Sound!
All proceeds will go to the Peconic Dunes 4-H Camp Counselor-In-Training scholarship fund. Scholarship qualifications include (1) participation in foster care system at any point in one’s life, (2) income below poverty level, or (3) receive federally funded free or reduced price school lunch.
While the event is free, participants are encouraged to raise $50 (or more) in sponsorships for their CIT scholarship fund. All swimmers ages 8 and up are welcome. For more information, contact info@peconicdunes.com or 631-852-8629.
