Creating Healthy Places Garden Success!

Creating Healthy Places in Suffolk County community gardens keep on growing and giving!

As an educator, seeing a student become the teacher is one of the proudest moments and that’s exactly what Magail Roman has done. A novice gardener two years ago when she joined the Growing Together Garden in Brentwood, Ms. Roman has taken the initiative to establish a garden for the youths at another site. Just look at the bountiful first harvest from a garden she established this season!

Their first harvest yielded 12 pounds! “Thanks to our ‘gifted scale’ from CHPSC (Creating Healthy Places in Suffolk County) we can calculate our harvest totals,” Ms. Roman said. On July 31, 2014, her “garden crew” pulled a treasure of edibles. “From our garden beds we observed a variety of plants needing growth time,” they observed. “We will be back for more soon.”
