Meet Hannah Rae Warren, Bilingual Project Specialist

Underscoring their shared commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, Cornell Small Farms Program (CSFP) and the New York State Integrated Pest Management Program (NYSIPM) announce the shared appointment of Hannah Rae Warren to a newly-created Bilingual Project Specialist position.

In this role, Warren will develop pathways to identify and reach Spanish-speaking, agricultural, rural, and urban stakeholders while championing efforts to promote safe and sustainable agricultural strategies, develop farm business ownership, and employ integrated pest management practices.

New York State Integrated Pest Management Program“We are thrilled to join Cornell Small Farms in welcoming Hannah Rae to our programs,” adds Alejandro Calixto, director of the NYSIPM Program. “Hannah brings an energetic approach to outreach and extension, and an impressive background of farm worker engagement with Spanish-speaking communities, relationship building, and project management to this essential position.”

Warren, a 2016 graduate of Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), will collaborate with Spanish language justice work teams and CSFP staff members to assess the needs and gaps in farming and IPM in communities throughout New York State, increase and document farming adoption and implementation among Spanish-speaking New Yorkers, and support and coordinate state and federal grant-funded projects.

Prior to joining the NYSIPM and CSFP programs, Warren served as coordinator for Khuba International and The Learning Farm, where she developed and implemented accessible agricultural programming, including Quarter Acre for the People and the Equitable and Edible Farm School. She has also worked as district translator for the Bloomfield Central School District and as a team member for Wegmans Organic Farm and Orchard. She earned a master’s degree in agroforestry and sustainable agriculture from CATIE (The Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center), Turrialba, Costa Rica.
