The news starts with a headline that may concern aspiring actors, “most film stars career lasts just one year long”. By conducting an analysis of over 2 million actors, they found that both men and women will be busiest in the earliest stage of their career, before falling out. The team from the Queen Mary University of London analyzed data from IMDb of the careers of 1512472 actor and 896029 actresses. The study found that about 69% of actors and 68% of actresses had careers that lasted one year.
The reason behind such a phenomenon is because of the “rich-get-richer” phenomenon in which the best-known actors and actresses get the most jobs. This makes early actors and actresses without a lot of career experiences harder to find a job. The article also states that due to the “rich-get-richer” process studies can predict whether an individual’s peak has already passed.
