The Chinese chat app stealing Weibo’s thunder

The topics is about one of the most famous app-WeChat right now, and how it affect people’s life. Here is the link: http://edition.cnn.com/2014/02/27/business/tencent-wechat-unseats-sina-weibo/

WeChat follows the admission of creating a new way for people to connect. For example, WeChat provides text messaging, hold-to-talk voice messaging, broadcast  messaging, sharing of photographs and videos, and location sharing. It can exchange contacts with people nearby via Bluetooth, as well as providing various features for contacting people at random if desired (if these are open to it) and integration with social network services such as those run by Facebook. Personally, I started to use it two years ago and I feel it is extremely convenient. As a result in the article, it points out that Wechat has been stealing Weibo’s thunder.

So how the resource connects to some topic covered in the course? I will discussion some of the features WeChat has that also related to our class material. For example, we learned that if person A knows person B and person B knows person C, and if the relationship status between person A and person B is strong, it is more likely that A will know C in the future. So WeChat has the feature of making this happened, if they know the relation ship between A and B, they will recommend a friendship between A and C by sending them some requests. Also one of the very interesting feature that WeChat has is that if two random people shake their phone at the same time when they use the app, they can see each other and maybe become friend. So, sometimes we will see someone who is from very far away but shake the phone with you at the same time. This is also what we learned in class that we are trying to create as more networks as possible.
