Secession?

As the presidential election wraps up, the candidate result triggers a very interesting uproar. Currently, many citizens are signing petitions to secede from the United States due to their disapproval of the nation’s leader continuing his presidency. From this, we notice a cascading effect. So far, almost half of the states in the US have signed this petition. As mentioned in the article, what was even stranger was that some of these states were known to be traditionally democratic states. Of course, there are sources are false cascading that result from citizens rashly signing this petition just for fun without knowing what the petition stands for and the future of this country. However, this trend nonetheless depicts a cascading effect, seen in class and now in one of the most hotly debated topics of this month.

The cascade started out with a majority of a state’s population reacting negatively to the election results. The low signal they received prompted them to create and sign such a petition. Another state that is also irked by the results and receives a low signal sees this petition and decides to start promoting their population to start signing this petition as well. Soon, many states cling on to this idea and start signing the petition, creating a cascade. However, all citizens need to do to sign is to simply create an account at whitehouse.gov. This could lead to many fake accounts and an inaccurate count of people actually taking this petition seriously.
