Co-led by Imane Terhmina and Laurent Dubreuil, and organized by Jacob Matthews, this project mobilizes state-of-the-art tools in artificial intelligence to help establish a semantic mapping of the lexicon of indigeneity in a large textual corpus in French. Our intent is to combine automated exploration with theoretical reflection on language and politics.

This research project (2023-24) is being financed by the French Embassy to the United States, the Cornell Center for Social Sciences and the Cornell French Studies Program.
