GABRIEL LEGER

Gabriel Leger (1978) is a French visual artist who lives and works between Paris and Athens. Nourished by historical and literary references, his work engages with the concept of time, and with the ways we interpret and emotionally relate to it. He is particularly interested in the visual or cultural fragments from the past that persist, reappear, and resonate in the present.  He uses materials with strong connotations such as bitumen, honey, wax, as well as ancient artefacts. Representative of his work are Deep Time (2020), a contemporary production of 7000 amulets from ancient Egyptian moulds; The One is the All (2020), a recreation of a Egyptian beer with authentic 3rd century wheat, or Le miroir d’un moment (2016-20), a series of repolished bronze mirrors from Antiquity.
