Activity Hacks: Family Dance Party

In our previous posts, Activity Hacks: Walking and Activity Hacks: Biking, we discussed two easy ways to include more activity in your routine. In this post, we will discuss another activity hack: dancing!

Dancing is a fun way to get your body moving! You can follow along to a video or make up your own moves. This is a family-friendly activity. There are no age restrictions on who can join your family’s dance party.

The Benefits of Dancing

Dancing is a full-body workout. It uses your abdominal, arm, leg, and back muscles. This leads to an overall improvement in muscle strength. Dancing is also great for your heart health. Regular engagement can decrease both blood pressure and cholesterol levels. As with walking and biking, dance positively impacts your mood. Dancing has been shown to make people feel happier.

Tips for Incorporating Dance into your Daily Life

Explore Your Music Options

There are so many types of music that you can dance to. Some favorites include pop, rock, and hip hop. There are also other less familiar types of music, such as folk, disco, and swing. Trying new genres can make your dance experience more exciting.

Take Advantage of Online Resources

The internet is filled with all types of dance videos. These include workouts, music videos, and professional performances. There are also how-to videos available online to learn everything from ballroom to breakdance skills. You can use these as inspiration for your dance experience.

Be Creative

Dance is a great way to use your imagination. Encourage kids to create their own dance routines and perform for the family. Alternatively, both adults and children can make fun online dance videos.

Learn About Other Cultures

Dance is an integral part of many cultures. If you are interested in getting to know other cultures, learning a traditional dance is a great first step.

Make it a Virtual Dance Party

During these unusual times, dance can be used as a social outlet. You can easily set up a dance party via Zoom, Skype, or Google Hangouts. This could act as a replacement for a missed school dance or simply be a fun activity to do with friends on a Friday night.
