Qianxia Yu is a Ph.D student from South China Botanical Garden(SCBG), Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS). She is visiting Specht Lab from January 2019 to January 2020.
Qianxia graduated from South China Agricultural University(SCAU) where she received her bachelors degree in Biotechnology. During her undergraduate, she obtained basic experiment training on plant tissue culture and Molecular Biology.
She entered University of Chinese Academy of Sciences(UCAS) for graduate study in 2014. Throughout her graduate, she works on the research of floral symmetry in Canna indica L.(Zingiberales) under the direction of Prof. Jingping Liao. There she investigated the expression patterns of CYC-like genes by RNA in situ hybridization and qRT-PCR.
Qianxia now is collaborating with Specht lab to develop the method of Crispr/Cas9 for transformation of Musa acuminate, Canna indica, Zingiber officinale and Costus spicatus. And also, She will continue research on floral symmetry in C. indica and other Zingiberales taxa, investigating the role of CYC-like and other candidate genes during the development and evolution of floral symmetry patterns across the order.
