Recommended Practices for Seed Potato Field Inspection – 2018 – This inspectors field guide is based on the “Guide to Seed Potato Field Inspection: Recommended Practices” produced by the the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE – see below). It has been revised for application in the USA by Willem Shrage (ND State Seed Deprtment) and Nina Zidack (MT State University) and provides general guidelines for assessing certified seed potato fields for important faults including disease, insect infestation, varietal mixtures, herbicide injury and other field related issues that are common across all seed potato producing areas. Hard copies of the guide were distributed at the 2016 Potato Virus Detection Training Workshop held in Othello, WA.

UNECE Guide to Seed Potato Diseases, Pests and Defects – 2014 – This United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) publication Guide to Seed Potato Diseases, Pests and Defects (ECE/TRADE/416) is available as a PDF at the link above and on the UNECE website. The guide provides a pictorial reference to pests and diseases affecting potato quality in Europe. The guide is not an exhaustive list of potato diseases, pests and defects but focuses on the most common faults relevant to seed potato production and trade. It was created to assist seed potato inspectors and producers in assessing seed potato quality.
