Google Versus Bing
Bing and Google are two prominent search engines. However, when searching the same word combination, you can receive very different results. Such differentiation reflects the significance of search engine algorithms and how Google and Bing have unique systems. Google uses the PageRank algorithm to compute the most important sites and results to show up. On the other hand, Bing uses a different algorithm. Many users agree that Google produces better outputs, that Bing focuses on more visual layout, and question why Bing’s search engine is not at the level of Google.

Moffitt considers the quality and standards of the Google search engine and points out that Bing “firmly holds 2nd place with an 18% share,” when considering all search engines. This means that Bing and Google are the two most used search engines. Google focuses on more “text based content” while Bing produces more graphic and visual results. Bing’s algorithm is used for a different goal: “Bing uses what’s known as “entity understanding”, which allows Bing to determine whether an image is of a person, place or object.” This difference shows that Bing is more suitable for someone looking for something visual. Moffitt continues to state that Bing relies on keywords and specifics while Google’s web page ranking relies more on backlinks. Additionally, the fact that Google’s search engine algorithm is greatly developed and contains more data makes it reasonable that its algorithm is more efficient than Bing, which is fairly new. Finally, the article considers that Bing is better for certain uses. A person who needs to study an image will find that Bing is more satisfactory. However, Google is more advanced and has a greater amount of overall information to produce the most accurate results. The Page Rank system allows google to read more than 100kb of a web page and produce more textual important results. It is interesting to see how two search engines can produce completely different results based on different algorithms.
