This article focuses on seven different tips to improve your website’s “Google Rank,” or how high up in a google search a certain site appears. It is important to focus on keyword phrases, or a subject for a page, that look natural. The point is to speak like a human in the subject line so that when humans are searching for a page about your topic, your website will be likely to be in the search results. One should be straightforward and use keyword phrases in the title that express exactly what the article is about.

Additionally, one of the biggest factors Google looks at is the hyperlink, or links to and from your website. Google examines words in links to help determine additional content of your page. In turn, any links from other websites to your website are used to determine a site’s PageRank, as we’ve covered in class. One can improve his or her PageRank by exchanging text links with other similar websites. Essentially, everyone wants to maximize links in between their own website and other websites in order to achieve a high PageRank. As we learned in lecture, the site with the highest number of “endorsements,” or links pointing to that site from another, gives a page a higher rank. We can compute indirect endorsement PageRanks by using the hub update rule and authority update rule and we can compute direct endorsement PageRanks by using the basic PageRank update rule. Thus, pages that are important are usually better authorities in leading web surfers to better sources, so PageRank is necessary in Google Ranking of search results.
