Facebook Connect System

It has been a while since Facebook has launched and became the most popular online social networking service. One of the secrets behind its success is the “connect” system. The system allows users to log-in to websites other than Facebook, i.e., Pandora, using their Facebook account. This opens a door for Facebook to make a perfectly personalized database. Now they can access more personalized information based on the information which websites they use the Facebook account to log-in. Additionally, Facebook users can freely share any type of media on Facebook by liking or sharing it, which adds more personalized value to their database. Facebook thus can attempts to build more personalized “Home” and show what each individuals are interested in.

This concept is similar to the strong and weak edge that we learned in class as Facebook creates “edges” based on the data collected from a number of websites a user log-ins with their Facebook account. Given certain media, this edge determines whether a user would be interested in or not, and Facebook is able to build more personalized database.
