Dr. Emily Boccia has accepted a full-time position at the Massachusetts SPCA Angell (MSPCA). Boccia is excited to return close to her New England area roots and take her shelter medicine training to the Cape Cod/Boston area, where the MSPCA has a state-wide reach, while also supporting additional outside states.
When reflecting on her year with the Maddie’s® Shelter Medicine team, Boccia is grateful for the surgical experience, especially as it pertained to spay and neuter; long-term patient management and the study design/case-study research training that was provided by Dr. Jan Scarlett, Professor Emerita of Epidemiology (Program Founder).
Boccia says her dream job would be to eventually take on more of an administrative role within a shelter, where she could see herself being responsible for protocol design and guiding the shelter medicine field as a whole.
FUN FACTS:
Dr. Boccia did find that “Ithaca is Gorges” and spent quality dog bonding time at the waterfalls.
