Pao Music Response

I came across this song “Black Rage,” by Lauryn Hill. It encompasses the themes and hardships of Pao, which includes, rage, uprising, crumbling economics, and the pain of progression in an unjust world.

  1. Great selection Paetyn! I really like how Lauryn samples this from “Favorite things”. I think that also has some hidden meaning as well maybe something related to the perspective of the oppressed and not caring how things that they do affect other people. I really like this song, its very perfect for Pao. I’ve never heard it before until now. Thanks for putting me on!

  2. Thanks for this selection, Paetyn! I really enjoy the backing beat and the key of the music. Both relate to Pao’s feelings of despondency and uncertainty, showing that even though the context of Michael Brown’s death (the image for the “Black Rage”) and colonialism in Jamaica are different, some of the ways in which hegemonic power structures operate in disallowing power operate in similar ways.
