I’d like to introduce you to our newest SBN employee, Christi Smith. Christi was hired to fill our new SBN position, “Regional Systems and Support Coordinator”. She will be working closely with Kim Amey and I on IT and HR tasks.
Christi is coming to us from the non-profit world with a background in education, program design and development, and local IT support. She has a Bachelor’s in Education (Elmira College) and was a certified NYS science teacher. During her graduate studies in Environmental Science and Biology (SUNY Brockport), she was a graduate teaching assistant and also worked as an IST (instructional support technician). Christi has spent the last few years working for growing non-profits in Buffalo, serving as their on-site IT support, leading youth programs, training volunteers and staff, and increasing program funding through grant writing and fundraising.
Christi first joined Cooperative Extension in early 2017 as an Ag Administrative Assistant, and has experience with many of the systems staff members use regularly, including: Adobe Creative Cloud suite (especially InDesign, Acrobat, and Illustrator), Kronos and WorkDay, CCE event registration, Zoom, local extension websites, and general IT support and troubleshooting.
As our WNY CCE Regional Systems and Support Coordinator:
Christi will be assisting with IT support, including:
- Purchasing, installation, troubleshooting and updating staff computers, printers and software
- IT orientation for new staff
- Provide end-user support and training for approved hardware/software products and systems (including e-mail, online conferencing such as Zoom, online event registration, etc.)
- Assist with collection, data destruction and recycling of old equipment (computers, monitors, projectors, etc.)
Christi and I will both be utilizing the wsbnit@cornell.edu e-mail when assisting and communicating with staff. As Christi learns the ins and outs of our systems, we will start to transition over to staff e-mailing this WSBN IT e-mail when you need assistance. In this way, whichever of us is available will be able to respond and help! (You may have already noticed that when I have been replying back to you, I’m cc’ing the wsbnit@cornell.edu e-mail so that Christi and I can stay up to date on current issues together.)
Christi will also be assisting with HR support, including:
- Western Region HR Transaction Processing
- Recruiting and Candidate Support
- Onboarding for New Hires
- Workday Time Tracking Troubleshooting and Training
- Workday User Technical/Troubleshooting Support
