eTest Frequently Asked Questions
To open a test for just one or a few students, you will make a copy of the exam and select only those students who are eligible. Remember to remove them from the original version of the exam.
Step by step instructions:
- Go into your Course Under “Copy A Test”, select to “Copy from a Previously Offered Test”
- Scroll to the test and click on it Leave on the selection for “This should be available to all Students…” and Click “Continue” Click “Un-Check All”
- Select only those students who should take the alternative exam, “Save and Continue”
- Select your faculty and “Save and Continue”
- Give your test a meaningful title, like “Quiz 1 –jp266” and set the new available dates and times
- Fill in other options as appropriate and click “Save and Continue”
- Go back into your original test and remove the students.
You may add and remove students from your test at any time:
- From the home page, click Create/Edit Test (or Test Results) and select your course.
- To the right of your test title you will links, click ‘USERS’
- Enter the student’s NetID in the entry box and click the Enter key.
NOTE: students are pulled into eTest from ClassLists the first time you create a test for the course. It is good practice to click “Update Students From ClassLists” regularly through the drop and adds period. Clicking this button will add and authorize any students not already authorized. And it will highlight, but NOT un-authorized dropped students.
You cannot.
Once the exam has been started by at least one student, you can no longer edit its content.
While you cannot change the content or remove a question from the exam once it has been started, you can change the point value to zero.
On the test results screen, navigate to the All Students screen, scroll to your question
Set the points to 0 and click Save
First check that your exam is active by checking the available date range.
From the home page, click Create/Edit Test (or Test Results) and select your course.
Just beneath the test title you will see the available date range
If it is not correct, click the CHANGE DATES link
Next,check that your students are authorized by clicking the USERS link.
Students who are authorized will have a check mark to the left of their name.
Restricted location refers to the option to make the test available only on the Wiswall Lab and Bilinski Lab computers only. Checking this option will make the test available only on the computers in the Wiswall Lab and the Bilinski Lab.
Each computer connected to the Internet is assigned an "IP Address". This procedure uses an "IP Address List" of valid computers to compare the location of the test taker. If the user is not on a computer in the Wiswall Lab or the Bilinski Lab, the test taker will get an error message stating that they must take the test in one of these locations.
If a student is denied access on a computer that should be included in the 'allowed' list, contact ESS to have it added to the list.
In test results, click Test Score Sheet
Then, at the top right of the screen, you will see an excel icon, click it
You must be a test Administrator to export scores to excel, if you don’t see the icon, check with the test administrator to change your authorization.
NOTE: some browsers do not allow you to export to excel, if this button does not work try a different browser –or, you can simply select the score sheet to copy and paste into a blank spreadsheet (select the table of scores, then select the top-left cell of a blank spreadsheet and paste)
In test results, click Course Score Sheet.
Then, at the top right of the screen, you will see an Excel icon, click it.
You must be a test Administrator to export scores to excel, if you don’t see the icon, check with the test administrator to change your authorization.

In test results, click the link in the menu bar, ‘Export Questions to Excel’

Begin by making a copy of the test (click ‘copy from previously offered test’ button on the test selection page and selecting the test)
Add your faculty, staff and residents to the Students screen one by one at the NetID prompt
After all your IDs have been added click Save and Continue
Update your Faculty viewers; and reset your test available dates on the Test Options screen
Select Create/Edit test from the home page and click on the course you want to copy the test into.
Click on the ‘copy from previously offered test’ button and select which test you wish to copy.
Follow the online instructions and be sure to update the dates available on the Test Options screen.
There are three ways to release the hold:
- You may click ‘CLEAR this hold and allow me to the test’ (Note: you may cause the other contributor to lose their work. Be certain they are aware you are clearing their hold).
- The other instructor may logon and click SAVE Test and EXIT at the bottom of the menu bar on the test edit screen.
- The other instructor may logon and click CANCEL All Changes and EXIT.
Your first must change the point value to zero, (this will set everybody’s score to zero), then set it back to the original value (setting all zeros to the new value).
You may change your points on the All Students screen of the test results page.
You may change the answer key on True/False, Multiple Choice or Short Answer type questions only.
Enter your question number at the prompt on the One Question screen of the test results screen.
Directly beneath the question, click the link ‘change the answer key’.
When you change the answer key, all scores are automatically re-calculated.
You may change your points on the All Students or the One Question screen of the test results page.
All scores will automatically be re-calculated.
On the Test Options screen of the test results page, select ‘Do NOT allow students to print the test’ and Save your options.
On the Test Score Sheet of the test results page, scroll to your student and, in the right-most column, click ‘Un-submit This Test’.
Note: you must be a test ‘Administrator’ to un-submit, if you see anonymized Student Names,then you are not a test administrator.
As long as the student has begun the exam, you may submit it for them.

Click the ‘float’ icon at the top of the menu bar to float the menu up and down to your current scroll position.
By default courses are only available during the current semester, this date range is set when you first create a test for the course.
Tests, Test Results and Mock Quizzes are only available while the course is active.
To re-activate a course, from the eTest home page, click Test Results; scroll to your course and click the CHANGE DATE link.
