Nina published in the EMBO J: Cross-talking of vasculature and hair follicle stem cells

May 9, 2023

After years of hard work, Nina finally published her second research paper about the relationship between hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs) and their vasculature niche. It’s not been a smooth journey but definitely a beautiful chapter in her life. Congratulations, Nina!

Below are several keep points from her paper:

  1. Alk1 depletion in both lymphatic and blood vessels perturbs EC gene expression and migration, impairing HFSC activation.
  2. Alk1 modulates vascular spatial rearrangement but not EC proliferation in the adult skin.
  3. Alk1 depletion in lymphatic vessels does not inhibit HFSC activation.
  4. Alk1 depletion in endothelial cells induces morphological changes in both blood and lymphatic skin vasculature.
  5. Alk1 depletion elevates BMP signaling in skin ECs, promoting HFSC activation and anagen onset.
