The unplanned road to success

I recently had the pleasure of listening to a Rose Café given by Julia Felippe concerning her journey to the United States, and to Cornell, as a veterinarian. Throughout her talk, one thing that kept coming up, and with which I was significantly impressed, was how unpredictable one’s life journey can be. Now, this isn’t the first time I’ve heard this message, nor the first time I’ve heard it in a Rose Café, however as a newly minted junior it takes on a new importance. I’ve already begun “mapping out” my next few years after Cornell, and begun planning what course my life will take and how I want things to happen, and it can be all to easy to fall into the trap of thinking what I want to happen is what must happen for me to be happy and successful.  I am thankful that, at this important stage, I heard her message, as it is helping me to step back and realize I don’t have to know everything that will happen, and that success won’t come without some uncertainty along the way.
